Can Broken Wings Still Fly?
Book Reviews
This is a wonderful story of the love
between two sisters and the faith instilled in them by their late
Grandma Evie. Even though Tauryn faced the terrifying consequences
of bad decisions, her sister's love and faith carried both of them
through their troubled times. Ms. Shaw did an excellent job in creating
a story that many teenagers should read. I thank my own grandmother
for buying the book for each of her grandchildren and for understanding
that young people need that same faith and love in today's times.

We are writing to you to say that your
book was lovely and keep writing books that will make our teacher
mad at us. Our teacher was mad because we read your book without
reading our schoolbook. Keep up the good work. We hope that your
book gets around, by us it will. Thanks.

Ms. Shaw has delivered a very realistic
look into the lives of two teens, allowing us to see how important
it is to address both teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS, along with other
very important issues related to the future of our community. Can
Broken Wings Still Fly? is a must read for those of us who are committed
to STOPPING THE SPREAD OF HIV!

Ms. Shaw, I read your book! I must say
that your book is a great book. I am convinced that your book is
a public servant. It speaks to the hearts of the teens. I plan to
share my copy of your book with the teens I work with in the Vance
community. I also plan to motivate the teens to learn your poems.
I believe your book and your poems will be the talk of the Vance
community.

Damita, I had the opportunity to read
your book last night, Can Broken Wings Still Fly?. I must concur
with my good brother Tim that it was riveting! I felt as if I was
actually there with Tauryn and Sasha as they went through the emotional
roller coaster of confirming a teenager's worst nightmare, pregnancy
and HIV. In tandem, the story also promoted the power of strong
Christian beliefs and love of family. Powerful messages delivered
in such a short and gravitating story! Phenomenal job, Damita!

Damita, what a wonderful book!
You are so talented in so many ways and have such a big heart. The
book will help many, many people. This is a message that kids need
to hear and you said it in a way that they will listen. My heart
pounded waiting to read the results of the HIV tests. You made the
reader really feel a bit of what the dread must have been like.
Thanks for letting me read your important work. Keep it up!
